Shot count task

In my shot count task ,I decided to choose the music video of the song 'Blurred Lines ft. T.I., Pharrell ' by American singer Robin Thicke which was quite hot in recent months. On the other hand, this song fitted into the genere which I had selected.

The music video, directed by Diane Martel, was released on March 20, 2013.The video features Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell casually standing in front of light-pink backdrop as they flirt with models (Emily Ratajkowski, Elle Evans and Jessi M'Bengue) who pose and dance.Actually the music video was removed from Youtube at the first time because of sexual context. However it was later restored on July 12, 2013. The unrated video remains available on Vevo, while the edited version is available on both Vevo and YouTube. The unrated version of "Blurred Lines" generated more than 1 million views in the days following its release on Vevo.

For this task I had counted how many shots in this music video, and finally I got approximately 110 shots. There was only one background(location) of this music video, which was a blank white background. The suggestive lyrics led to the music video fulled of sexual context in order to be attractive. The most attractive thing was those three top models wearing sexy outfits like shorts ,crop tops and high-heels. Basically, there were plenty of close up of the models with snapping at their lips ,blinking to the audiences as well as lots of long shot of them to show their sexy dance moves. On the other hand, some significative props were used to suggest a 'feast' between men and women, such as drinks , huge dices .

Narrative:
This music video itself dose not follow a specific story. The whole video just presented three men and three ladies keep dancing and having fun. It used different kinds of shots to present sexy dance moves between them and let the music video full of provocative. And star images( Andrew Goodwin Theory) were showed while they were singing in front of the camera.

Audience:

Many shots of the models' perfect body shapes were used in the music video in order to attract audiences especially male(Gaze theory from Laura Mulvey). Link to Andrew Goodwin Theory, it could be said that is voyeurism taking place as woman is sexualised through limited clothing. Not only the male adults would have intersets in this music video, but also teenagers would want to watch it because of the curiosities of sexual context. Reasonably, the unrated version of "Blurred Lines" generated more than 1 million views in the days following its release on Vevo.

Representation:

Although the models are the point to attract audiences, the music video must led the artist of the song stand out. So that many of huge text of "thicke" was shown through the whole music video in order to promote the artist as well as this song.
